Harare Children’s Home Fire Relief
The Harare Children’s Home was founded in 1918 and looks after vulnerable children. It currently has 90 children in its care.
On 17 August 2023, the Harare Children’s Home suffered a devastating fire that completely destroyed 2 buildings and everything contained in them. The buildings housed 20 vulnerable children each and their house mothers. Nothing could be recovered following the fire. Fortunately, this happened at 11.00am during the school holidays when all the children were out playing and therefore, there was no loss of life.
Eaglesvale Alumni decided to help due to the huge impact of the fire on vulnerable children. Many Eaglesvale Alumni representatives helped in personal ways by visiting and making much needed donations such as clothing, bedding, and other items. As a collective Eaglesvale Alumni raised funds which were donated to the Harare Children’s Home to support the restoration effort. This was very much appreciated by the Harare Children’s Home, who expressed their gratitude in a letter of thanks.
The damaged buildings to the Harare Children’s Home have been re-built, and the restoration is complete. 2 Eaglesvale Alumni representatives attended the unveiling ceremony following the restoration, again showing their support for such a worthy cause. As an Alumni our purpose us to stay connected and offer support and we are very proud to have been able to assist the Harare Children’s Home given that The Director is the mother of 2 former pupils from Eaglesvale. Thank you, Eaglesvale Alumni for living to our motto, Diens, which means service!
